This is probably a really dumb question, but hey, I'm a newbie and inspite of my advanced age and what I would like my kids to think...I don't know everything!!! I downloaded some of the older skins, and my user pic looks awful on them ..sometimes it gets cut in half or sort of squished...looking at the comments for these skins, alot say "remember to disable user pic"...so how do I do that? Googling it got me nothing but alot of chat room stuff...not exactly helpful. Thanks Bet

Display Properties - Appearance Tab - WindowBlinds button - User Overrides - Uncheck "Show User Icon in Start Panel" and Check "Allow Skins to Replace User Icons"

Display Properties - Appearance Tab - WindowBlinds button

That part can be skipped by simply doubleclicking the WB icon in the systemtray

OK, then it would be (for me) Display Properties - Appearance Tab - WindowBlinds button - User Overrides - Check the "Show Icon in the System Tray" - Double click WB icon - User Overrides - Uncheck "Show User Icon in Start Panel" and Check "Allow Skins to Replace User Icons"

Ok, tried that...but it didn't work for "Blue Grey Heaven" by jcg... my little penguin is only half there (kinda like me on Manday am's before I get my coffee fix!). But it just looks awful. I will exit, reboot and try again. Please let me know of any other ideas on how to get this to look right. Thanks Bet

Do you have Skin Studio? If you do, open the skin in SKS and in the middle left of the screen, click on the XP Taskbar icon and it will display the Start Menu....click on the user pane at the top, where the name and picture are, and a menu will come up on the right of the screen. The third entry down will be Hide User Picture. Click it and a short drop down menu will show under the start menu picture. It will say Disabled if your pic is showing. change it to Enable and at the Menu at the top left of the screen, click on Tools/Windowblinds/Apply the Skin, it will ask if you want to save changes, click Yes and it will load the skin with the change. Check the Start Menu now to make sure the pic is gone, and close Skin Studio.......a long explanation but it is easy and fairly quick.Hope this works for ya boop

Well, tried this, but got an error msg..."you need to fir errors marked as [critical errors] for the skin to save. Then it pauses, says validating, then exits. The problem with the start menu is still there, and I have no idea as to what critical errors are or how to fix them, so guess this skin will just go in the wait and see if there's an update box...sigh...I love that soft blue grey color. Thanks for all the help, though. I'm afraid that this may be beyond my limited abilities. B

just click no on the critical errors boop, it says that even on some brand new skins, things SKS thinks it needs but the skinner didn't have to put in the blind...click no and it should do the change for you...I see it alot when I go in to make a compact start or change something on a skin...the message comes up on older skins that used older versions of SKS, but happens on new ones too..good luck

Well, that fixed it, sort of...now the curvey top is missing, but so is the half image of my little penguin. Doesn't look bad...just a wee bit different. Thanks again for all the help. Ps it worked great on a couple of other skins that that my user pic just didn't look good on. they didn't loose their tops!

Just an update...went back into the skin, checked out the "user pane" image..and it had the wrong one checked..so scrolled down thru all the stuff (lord, you guys have do make so much stuff for one skin..I'm in awe) until I found the right one, clicked on it, went to tools, windowblinds, apply, save (yes) and VOILA!!! it was fixed!! It is now beautifully shaped and no funny penguin!! Thanks for all the help on this.
