I have been seeing alot os screenshots with recolored icons...how do they do this? I did a search and came up empty , but then again, maybe I wasn't asking the question correctly. Perhaps there's a tutorial someone can steer me to? Thanks heaps!! B

Ps Speaking of screenshots..i just noticed that one I submitted on the same day as Alien Spheres is dated a week earlier....it's nothing important, but wondering if this happens now and again.

IconDeveloper is one of the programs you can recolor icons with.

I am not at my home machine so can't give you any guidelines that I can be certain of, but here is the basic stuff:

It is fairly intuitive to do by poking around in the program - the basic steps are:

1) Open up one of the icon libraries (".icl" file) in the Icon Developer program.
2) Select "recolor" icons (should be easy to find this option).
3) Adjust the color with interactive controls.
4) Save colorized library to use

I'm sure someone with more accurate info will stop by soon.

Thanks, will keep my eyes peeled for more tips!!! I tried what you suggested, but each time the ok button doesn't work...just the cancel, if I choose the recolor option. Will keep trying.

You can only recolour multiple icons in the purchased version.

Yrgal..the purchased edition of object desktop or icon developer? I thought they were a package deal, I have the purchased edition of object desktop(bought it two days after seeing all the great stuff here )
I managed to get a package recolored via Icon Developer, but I couldn't get the option to work via Icon packager (tools - recolorpackage) It takes me to Icon Developer and a box asks me to select the target package name and asks what I want to do with the package - edit recolor or skin. When i chose recolor - the ok box greyed out and only the cancel was available.

Another question - it only let me save it as an icon library - how do I get it into icon packager without having to do each one by one? I must have missed a critical step ... Thanks Bet

Boopish,
When you select the option to recolor icons in Icon Developer, you have to rename the set. What I do when I recolor icons is add the color name to the name of the icon set. For example, I want to recolor a set called purple folders. I renamed it light purple folders and selected the OK. Icon Developer will then will do its thing, and then open the set up. Then I recolored it and saved it when I was done. That way, I have the original icon set, as well as the new set I recolor. After I am finished, I close out of Skin Studio, open Icon Packager if not already opened, then select install new package from disk, then navigate to the themes folder of Icon Pasckager and select the package I just recolored. Voila! Your new icon set should then load.

Hope I didn't confuse you too much.

Lady Aarielle,
You are most welcome! I'm glad it worked for you! It took me a while to figure out how to do that, so I am more than glad to share what I've learned.

Boss019,
Glad it helped you!
I'm one of those people who love challenges, and like to tinker until I figure things out for myself. Now, if I could figure out why Icon Packager is messing up! I posted a message in this forum about it. I have this sinking feeling that I am gonna have to do an uninstall/reinstall.

Just save all your icon packages somewhere, shouldn't be that big of a deal to reinstall..I'm getting a new computer today, got all my skins and walls and such on cd's to transfer to it...but I will have to reinstall Object Desktop, Rainlender and all the other programs again...not bad if you don't have dialup

Thanks - it worked and I am happily recoloring. Just to be on the safe side, I printed out this thread and have it handy!

As for backing up or having your packages located somewhere else, I can't agree more. I keep a backup of all my stuff on DVD, and a separate hd. After having a couple of complete computer meltdowns (one caused by my dumb mistake of deleting a file I didn't recognize - turned out to be part of the new Vaio's restore info - was my face red!!!
I should have done a run thru and checked all the file names when I got the new computer so I knew what belonged. As it was, when a virus slipped thru on a photo no less, and I did my usual check after getting the warning that a virus was found and quarantined; saw this file that I didn't recognize and deleted it! Not one of my best moves.

Boopish,

I'm glad the tip helped you.

I, too, have backups of all of my wincustomize stuff....blinds, walls, icon packages, etc. I have them on a separate HD, and then about every month, I burn them to CD. I do this with all of my data. Incidentally, I did wind up having to uninstall/reinstall Icon Packager. It seems that one or more of the files in Icon Packager got corrupted. Everything is fine now, and I am a happy camper!
